You are applying for the EZ Trainee Program, Trainee (m / w / d) for Rural Development, a junior funding program of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Training is provided for German and multilateral development cooperation (DC) organizations. The program is being carried out by the German Association for International Cooperation (GIZ) on behalf of the BMZ. The focus of the program is the expansion of management skills and the acquisition of work experience in program development and management of German development cooperation.
The structure of the program enables you to get to know the structures, actors and ways of working of DC in a “on the job” training from different perspectives: During the 17 months of training, you will go through three phases of practice. After the one-month preparation, start with the 8-month deployment in the o.g. Expertise in Ethiopia. Then choose a 3-month assignment with an international organization and end with a 5-month assignment in the BMZ.
The trainee remuneration amounts to 1.900, – € gross / month
Field of activity
As part of the trainee program, you will be deployed for your 8-month assignment in the Project Capacity Development project to strengthen the drought resilience of the pastoral and agro-pastoral population in the Ethiopian lowlands with business trips to the Afar and Somali regions.
Since 2013, work has been done to anchor economically, environmentally and socially sustainable practices of context-specific management of natural resources in the institutions of the sector. The measure is closely integrated into the structures of the Ministry of Agriculture. The work is concentrated in the structurally weak areas of the eastern and southeastern lowlands of Ethiopia. On the one hand, it promotes the approach of rehabilitating the natural environment while at the same time creating adapted new living systems. On the other hand, the necessary knowledge and the necessary training are prepared. The government at the federal, regional and local level is supported to provide needs-based services and innovative approaches to resource management and new living systems are promoted.
Her field of activity will be to design cooperation processes in the program of all measures that contribute to Rural Development. Knowledge management and the use of digital solutions play a central role in this.
Support the building of strategic and operational/digital mechanisms in a new program/cluster structure to promote the potential of lowland regions.
The two subsequent practical phases and the tasks there will be developed in the course of the EZ trainee program.
These professional qualifications will bring you for the first practical phase:
Studied agricultural science, political science or economics
The focus of study in Rural Development / structural change/interfaces emergency aid, transitional aid, development cooperation
Necessary professional knowledge in the field of organizational development
The following knowledge and experiences round off your qualifications for the entire EZ trainee program:
- Knowledge of development cooperation
- First practical experience in a developing country
- Fluent language skills in German, English, and Amharic, alternatively Arabic
- Willingness to change location several times open for use in different organizations
- Intercultural Competence
- The knowledge and experience may have been acquired through an internship.
